Tamarindo Fishing Reports

Januaray Fishing Outlook for Tamarindo / Flamingo area

Date: January 6, 2022

Moon:  New:  Jan 2nd  Full:   Jan 17th  Last:  Feb 1

Conditions:  Moderate seas to the North, calmer conditions to the South  Variable to Strong offshore winds (common this time of year)

Outlook: January fishing in Tamarindo is busy!! The post COVID travel boom is in full effect and the new US testing mandates that are soon to roll out don’t seem to be an issue (re-entry to US will require a negative COVID test within 24 hrs, easily done here).

Offshore action brings mixed bag fishing for Mahi, Tuna, Sailfish, and Marlin but will continue to slide towards consistent action with billfish mainly. Trade winds have started which means longer runs to the South where calm seas are abundant.  Large Yellowfin Tuna, Mahi, and Marlin have provided the most consistent action.

Please note that we recommend a minimum of a 3/4 day charter this time of year!! This will get you out of the wind and to fertile fishing grounds.  Red tide has also been a factor, but we have been able to run outside of it, time permitting.

Nearshore action consist of lots of jigging for bottom species, trolling for live bait and then soaking them around structure for large Cubbera Snapper and Roosterfish.  Small Mahi can be caught as well as small football Yellowfin Tuna.  Red Tide has been a factor but should be on its way out.  Offshore action has yielded more productive days as of recent.

Onshore action has been on the fly for river fish in small rafts with dual shooter seats. We can help arrange these tours
